The chart shows the changes which took place in student income in the United Kingdom over the ten-year period from 1988/89 to 1998/99
During the period from 1988/89 to 1998/99 student received much more income from student loan which rose from 0% to 24% of total income and there was a double increase in income from earnings which climbed from 6% to 12%. At the same time other sources of income went up by 10% from 24% to 34%.
On the other hand, there was a 24% decrease in receiving income from grants, which fell 38% to 14% and there was a similar change in parental contribution, which went down from 32% in 1988/89 to 16% 1998/99.
Overall, the main change of the student income was a shift from receiving from parent and government to receiving from job or bank by themselves.
